Keele's collection of 240 Flowering Cherry has been awarded National Collection status by Plant Heritage! Only 7 other universities hold national collections and most of these are in the elite Russell group which puts us in good company.

While many of the cherries are still quite young, they will eventually provide a stunning spectacle in the spring. The collection builds on a long history of flowering cherries at Keele using the expertise of noted plantsman Chris Sanders. It has been partly funded by Plant Heritage but primarily by generous donations of alumni in memory of John Ivinson and Philip Davies and his family.

Today Radio Stoke and the Sentinel came up to do an interview and to take photos - fame at last!

More information on our cherries is available here.
