There has been a national immigration of hoverflies and these have reached Keele. There are two main species Scaeva pyrastri and Episyrphus balteatus (photo). The latter, sometimes referred to as the "Marmalade Fly" is by far the commoner and more obvious and has been seen in very large numbers.
