31st August 2011

A dull day with high pressure "clag". Walked around the top three lakes and there was an distinct sweet smell from the Himalayan Balsam that is spreading round the lakes. At this time of year the seed pods "explode" when touched, releasing their seeds.
It's pretty enough but is a noxious weed that is spreading along river systems choking out our natural vegetation. The Little Grebes and their chicks were very vocal on the top lake and there were a few Common Darter dragonflies.

It is nice to see the Keele Hall fountain restored and working at last.
