20th June 2012

Just back from a week in sunny, rain-free Spain and what a change in the vegetation. Unfortunately all the rain of the past weeks has had an effect on the insect numbers. No sign of any butterflies and moths numbers in the trap are right down - just a Beautiful Golden Y of note. There are 2 Blackcaps, a Garden Warbler and a Chiffchaff singing in the Walled Garden and a Stock Dove in the surrounding Terrace woodland.

Many of the flowering cherries are suffering from Leaf Scorch. This kills off all the leaves but they remain on the tree making it look dead. Fortunately it is not permament and new leaves grow back as the summer progresses.
