Autumn sunshine brings out the colours of a Horse-chestnut behind the fountain |

13th September 2011
A beautiful autumnal morning after the remnants of hurricane Katia have left the ground littered with leaves and branches.
The moth trap was still standing but the cover had blown away! Needless to say there were few moths inside. A Chiffchaff was singing half-heartedly nearby and a Siskin flew over - the first of the autumn. A group of Mistle Thrushes was making a racket in the top of a Lime Tree; alarmed by a Sparrowhawk that flew over. The sun was still shining at lunchtime and there were over 30 Swallows hawking insects over the playing fields - a super sight.
