A lovely calm, mild morning - just a pity the moth trap didn't come on because it would have been a good night! Still, there were Stock Doves calling on the Terrace and I flushed three from the lawn by the Top Lake. The Lake was smooth as glass and had 15 Mallards and a Little Grebe.
At lunch I walked to Lake 4 which is looking great (see photo). It's covered in Fringed Waterlily which is just coming in to flower. Also, a Green Woodpecker called near-by - I suspect they may have bred here as I've heard them all summer - if so it will be a first for Keele. A Moorhen was escorting three very young chicks on Lake 1.
